What determines minimum FPS?
Hi again,
Even after getting a decent 3D Card, my minimum FPS didnt increase. Its still a shameful 8 FPS min in Kamadan #1 storage area.
My spec:
CPU: Celeron 2GHz (FSB400)
RAM: 1Gb DDR400
GPU: X800gtO (OCed to 510/850 [stock cooling] from 400/700)
So, the maximum FPS went up, but not the minimum in busy towns.
Clearly the GPU has nothing to do with it, my friend with a X300 is claiming a minimum of 20FPS in Kamadan #1. (i'll get his exact specs soon)
So, is it my CPU or RAM, or both?
With a CPU, should higher FSB take priority over CPU speed when upgrading?
Any other advice related to minimum FPS appreciated too

That celeron wil drag your total performent of the pc. More rams will also help.

CPU is a little on the slow side, but you are probably also slowing down because the graphics card is running too hot due to overclocking.
I get similar results with a P4 2.4Ghz + Mobility Radeon 9600
The gpu is much much slower than what you have.

GPU is fine, even RAM is. The CPU however is quite low.

Ignore the overclocking, its fine and isnt hot at all.
Ok so about the CPU, i propose this:
2.4GHz (800 FSB) or
2.8GHz (533 FSB)
Which is better and WHY?

Eh, without specifying what kind of CPU's you are talking about its impossible to give you any advice.
Are these Celeron's, Pentium 4's, Athlons, A64's, Core Duo's or something else for instance?

You ideally want Core 2 Duo, though I'm sure lower end CPU's will cope just as well.

Sorry im talking about Socket 478 pin CPUs: Celeron, P4... you're right i shouldve specified that i wasnt changing mobos.
I know the best thing i can stick in there is like a 3.4GHz FSB1000 CPU, BUT what i need to know is how a 2.4GHz (800 FSB) would compare to a 2.8GHz (533 FSB). Just incase i didnt mention it, these would be socket 478 CPUs: Celeron, P4

Well, this should probably give you a good idea:
http://xtreview.com/images/cpu-chart...kr2005-cpu.jpg
Benchmark list of an extensive range of cpu's. Note that the 200 number for P4's equals 800Mhz due to the quad pumped architecture of the P4. Offhand I'd say go for the 2.8 if its a P4 and not a celeron model, the Celerons suffer due to their lack of cache especially in gaming.

Thanks for that comparo, tells me what i need to know.
Bus speed > CPU speed.
Cheers again!
